Bombers are a class of ship that belong in the StrikeCraft family, along with their counterparts: Fighters. As they require capital ships to launch from, Strike Craft are officially a Sub-Ship Class. This differentiates them from the Capital ships so that Fighters and Bombers cannot fly solo into a battle.
Integration into FleetsEdit
Bombers can be placed into any ship class with Special Module Slots, which are represented by elaborate + signs on the far right of the Ship Design Window. Early bombers only require one slot, but late game bombers require two slots to be built into the ship. Additionally, the class of bomber can be changed by the <> signs at the top of the module, and their type (Either Balanced, Invasion, or Battle) can be altered by the drop down menu. By default they are set to balanced.
Defending against fighters and bombers can occur in two ways:
- By using Battle-Oriented Fighters
- By using Point Defenses
The first option has already been covered, so we will go into the second option. Pointdefenses can be researched relatively early in the Galactic Warfare tech tree, weigh ten tonnes, and require one special slot. These defenses act as AA Flak Turrets that shoot at attacking Strike Craft. The damage done to the Fighters/Bombers is directly correlated with the defensive level of the Capital Ship on which the defenses are based. I.e. A ship with many defenses (Flak, Shields, and Deflectors) Shoots down Strike Craft faster than a Ship with few of these defenses. (The specific damage formula will be added later)
As mentioned, Bombers must have a mothership with which they can launch from. The behavior of the bomber in a battle is related to this fact, and said behavior will be described on a phase-by-phase basis.
Phase 1 (Introduction)Edit
In this phase, Bombers simply fly behind their "mother ship" and await their orders for the battle as the intro music plays and enemy fleet arrives.
Phase 2 (First Battle Phase)Edit
- In this phase, bombers fly towards the enemy, potentially attracting the attention of enemy fighters.
Phase 3&4 (Second and Third Battle Phase)Edit
During this phase, Bombers attack the enemy fleet, firing two volleys per phase
Phase 5 (Report)Edit
In this phase bombers return to their ships and re-assume their posistions behind the ships. However, if they have no ships to return to, they fire one more volley at the enemy fleet before flying towards the nearest planet.
