Applied Casimir Effect is a technology on the Exploration and Expansion technology tree with a research cost of 300 Science. It unlocks two Empire Improvements, requires research in Efficient Shielding or in Compact Fusion Reactors, and allows further research in Containment Fields and Baryonic Shielding.

"After decades of experimentation with plates of the right size, material, and distance, the vacuum energy created through the quantum mechanics of the Casimir Effect can finally be exploited as an energy source."

Total Hull IntegrityEdit

Research-total-hull-integrity

"Passing through the entrance to a wormhole subjects a starship to incredible forces of gravity and powerful blasts of radiation. Denser materials, shielding, and advanced hull construction permit a vessel to take this risk at less than 100% fatality rates."

Colonization ProgramEdit

"You can now populate stars far from your starting constellation. However, to do this will require effort at all levels of the society. By creating an official program and stressing the need to sacrifice small comforts in service of a larger cause, some of the discontent caused by colonization can be minimized."

Colonization Program (Harmony)Edit

TriviaEdit

  • The Casimir Effect is a phenomenon in quantum field theory, where physical forces arise from a quantized field, similar to magnetic force.
